Social Security Certificate
The United States Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government that administers Social Security, a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability, and survivors’ benefits.
In order to prove that a United States national is receiving Social Security benefits, InterCol can arrange a “budget letter”, “benefits letter”, “proof of income letter”, “proof of award letter” or “income statement” with the American Embassy. Depending on the applicant’s interests, these can be used for legal purposes and primarily as a direct means of processing a Colombian visa, in the event of the monthly pension received being above the equivalent of three (3) times the current monthly minimum wage in Colombia.
In order to obtain this certificate, InterCol will require the following documents:
- DS-5505 form, filled out in its entirety and signed. You can download and fill out the form here: DS-5505-PRIVACY-ACT-COL
- A copy of your valid ID document (Passport in the case of U.S. nationals).
- A copy of any correspondence from Social Security/Veterans, or a bank statement that shows the amount you receive in benefits.
